Issues & Crisis PR - Bird Flu Epidemic Media Scare

Nexus PR Product Recall

Bird flu threatened epidemic: How to keep out of the news.

Bird Flu is an international disease which, although it has caused few deaths among humans, has ignited the interest of the press in an unprecedented way.

Working with the British Egg Industry Council, Nexus' job was to try to negate any impact on egg sales.

The media were planning to run a series of articles on bird flu, but in order to minimise the association with eggs we took the deliberate step of not commenting or putting spokespeople forward, even when there were outbreaks in the UK.

In the background all key personnel were media trained for all eventualities and Q&As were developed.

This approach resulted in egg sales being unaffected by the scare stories.
